Help us grow awareness for how violence disproportionately affects Indigenous women in our communities, join us in celebrating Indigenous stories of strength and resilience, and learn more about what we can do to create spaces of cultural safety and allyship for our sisters.
Joining us will be Michelle Thomas, a Seneca Bear Clan woman from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, and the author of the self-published creative non-fiction book entitled Beyond the Leaf’s Thickness. Michelle has worked in the education, social development, addictions, and employment and training sectors, and uses this combination of skills and experience to create opportunities for people to decolonize their minds and become better allies to Indigenous people.
The free online event will be hosted on Zoom and donations are welcome. Any donations received will go directly to the Native Women’s Centre in Hamilton, which provides safety and security to over 5,000 women every year.
Given the possibility of sensitive subject matter, counsellors will be present at the event to support attendees if needed.
